Trevor Noah returned for a third time to host Sunday’s 65th Grammy Awards, which returned to Los Angeles after last year’s stint in Vegas.
βIt’s the best city in the world, if you ignore some other cities,β Noah joked at the beginning of the show before introducing an electric opening performance by Bad Bunny. The Puerto Rican rapper kicked things off with an explosive medley of “El Apagon“/”Despues de la Playa,β leading a colorful troupe of dancers through the Crypto.com Arena and getting stars like Taylor Swift and Jack Harlow out of their seats.
As for Noah, the barb about Los Angeles was as cutting as he was. The former late night host launched into his monologue after the performance of Bad Bunny, dishing out a series of dad jokes and playing it safe with the people he called.
“Every time I listen to it, I get hips I never knew I had. That album is so fiery, it makes Trump want to learn Spanish,” Noah said.
“My job is to be your eyes, your ears. I will float in this room. Think of me as a Chinese spy balloon, that’s what I’m doing right now, gathering all the information you want,” he added, referring to the ‘suspicious flying object that the United States shot down off the Carolina coast the day before.
Noah then made a fool of himself while checking BeyoncΓ©’s name.
“BeyoncΓ© was nominated for her album Renaissance, which by the way is better than anything from the Renaissance proper, in my opinion. The Renaissance was just pictures of grapes and stuff like that; BeyoncΓ© took it to another level. In fact, I was so inspired by the lyrics to ‘Break My Soul’ that I quit my job,β Noah joked. He’s gone The daily show after seven years in December.
“Harry Styles is here tonight folksβ¦ I mean what can be said about this man that hasn’t been said? Amazing album, mind blowing tour,” Noah said. “Women throw panties at this man, and then he puts them on, and he fits better than them! Easily the sexiest man alive. There’s no competition.”
Noah called Styles the “sex symbol of the world”.
βEspecially now since they took out the Green M&M, no competition,β the TV personality continued, recalling the recent M&M talking candy controversy. “RIP, Green, we miss you.”
Noah wrapped things up with a cute bit with Adele and Dwayne Johnson. The Grammy host explained how when he sought out some of the night’s nominees, like Adele, he learned how he’s always wanted to meet The Rock.
“This is one of the weirdest things I’ve found out: the person Adele has always wanted to meet but has never met is Dwayne Johnson. Have you ever met him? And then I found out that he’s a big fan of yours too, Noah explained, before pulling out the Black Adam star. “Adele, meet The Rock. The Rock, meet Adele. First time ever!”
