In a new story for Amazon Original Stories, the singer detailed a secret romance she had with a “major movie star” years ago. The entertainer reveals a lot about their romance — how they met, where they first kissed and how things ended — but she didn’t reveal the mystery man’s name.
In the aptly titled story Movie star, Simpson said it all started in early September 2001 at the MTV VMA after-party. She was on a break from boyfriend Nick Lachey and was a star product in the industry.
“I was dodging calls from two boybanders, one from NSync, the other from Backstreet Boys,” he wrote.
Simpson was also dodging some music executives at the party when his bodyguard, who was also the star’s trainer, recognized a famous face in the crowd.
“This is Jessica,” the bodyguard said as he introduced Movie Star to her.
“I know,” the actor replied.
“He gave me a different hug — a celebrity-edited hug that held a few seconds longer than I expected. As our mutual friend, my bodyguard, spoke, this megastar, who I grew up thinking was so hot , looked me up and down. Like he was undressing me with his eyes,” Simpson wrote.
Movie Star and Simpson engaged in some small talk and she was like, “That’s what it’s like to be hit.” The singer said that, aside from Lachey, “no man had ever been so direct in looking at me provocatively. At least that I wanted to look at me that way. He put his hand on my hip and leaned in so I could feel him better. “
The two soon met at a gym in Los Angeles where he got Movie Star’s number, but he didn’t call. Simpson finally reconciled with Lachey days later on September 11, 2001. As she documented in Open book, the two got married and went through a very public divorce. She found herself very single again in 2006.
In Simpson’s account, she coyly talked about dodging the advances of some pretty famous men after splitting from Lachey. A guy she dubbed RomCom, “a handsome rom-com actor” and “Southern South,” slipped her a hotel key without saying a word. But according to Simpson, it was “the guys who treated me like marriage material” who were “most dangerous.”
“A producer guy,” she told Simpson that she had a mystery bachelor to set her up with. “I have someone who has been after you forever and you don’t even know it,” the person said. The man “pulled out his Nokia” and ended up linking Simpson with Movie Star.
Simpson briefly met the mystery actor at the Beverly Hills Hotel while preparing for an awards show. In one of the bungalows they kissed for the first time.
“I felt this hot rush all over my body, down to the tips of my toes in my wedges,” Simpson recalled.
“He texted me during the awards ceremony. The event was so big that it made me feel special that every beautiful woman in Hollywood was there and he wanted me. In fact, there was another beautiful woman in the his life: his girlfriend.” she wrote. “A little later, I saw a photo of Movie Star on a red carpet with her. I was never going to be the other woman in a million years.”
Movie Star convinced Simpson that the relationship was “completely” over, but didn’t want the press to know. The two continued their courtship and went out together in clubs in Los Angeles and Movie Star did not hide that she was pursuing the singer.
“While a lot of guys were told by their management teams to stay away from me or get sucked into my vortex of fame, he was a seasoned veteran of Hollywood, with a much bigger fame than mine,” joked Simpson . “He’d already achieved levels of success that no one would ever achieve, so he didn’t really have people telling him what to do. And I actually liked that about him. He was very authentic.”
Another clue to the actor’s identity: Simpson noted that they “had different faiths, but the same reverence for God.” The movie star apparently spoke to a spiritual healer about how she wanted to have sex with the just Married star.
Simpson pointed out that while they were intimate, the two didn’t have sex, but not for lack of trying on Movie Star’s part. She took her on a private jet to the east coast for a romantic date while filming a movie. As their secret relationship continued, she recalled meeting him at a hotel, but she was told to walk up the fire escape to her room. Later, she realized it was because she wanted to “hide me from her girlfriend” and not from the press.
“There was some drama between them, and I would never be a part of it again. I lived it in a really funny superficial physical and flirtatious way, but now I would have sinned against every woman in the world, and that didn’t make me feel I feel good,” continued Simpson. She didn’t kick Movie Star out of her room, but “we didn’t have sex.” Simpson wanted to end things on his terms.
“He had lied to me, saying I was the only one, but I was being honest with myself. So maybe going forward, I didn’t need to feel as insecure as I thought I was,” Simpson shared. She left the next day without saying a word to the unnamed actor. “That was the first time I felt truly empowered since being married, and it was mine alone.”
Simpson didn’t walk away empty-handed, though.
“I needed a trophy for this achievement, so I grabbed the pillowcase he slept on. I didn’t care if he was creepy or if he had to pay for it…and he would send the message. It was fun, but now I have a memory of you,” Simpson wrote.
Movie Star called her, but she didn’t answer.
“Why would you leave me?” she asked in a voicemail. “I can’t believe you got up and left me like that.”
Simpson said that “it was the beginning where I learned to love myself completely”. She, too, the actress has found someone who loves her completely. Simpson has been married to NFL player Eric Johnson since 2014. They share three children: Maxwell, 10, Ace, 9, and Birdie, 3.
