Dwayne Johnson said he’s counting his blessings after his mom survived a car crash.
The 50-year-old actor and former WWF icon shared a photo on his Instagram account on Thursday, showing a badly wrecked red car. He said his mother, Ata Johnson, 74, had been in the vehicle.
“Angels of mercy watched over my mother as she was in a car accident last night,” Johnson wrote in the caption. “She will survive and continue to be valued.”
She added a few words of praise for her mother’s resilience: “This woman has survived lung cancer, a difficult marriage, a head-on collision with a drunk driver, and an attempted suicide. She’s a survivor, in ways that make angels real and miracles”.

Johnson didn’t provide specific details about the crash, but he thanked first responders. “Thank you LAPD and LAFD for being so thoughtful and focused,” he wrote. “Thanks for staying on the phone and talking to me about all this.”
She concluded, “I have one parent left, so if you still have your mom and dad make sure you hug them tight, because you never know when you’re going to get that 3am call that we never want to get.”

His post was responded to by a variety of names from both the sports and acting worlds, including well wishes from Olympian Michael Phelps and Bond star Pierce Brosnan.
Johnson has spoken before of his mother’s strength and has been sharing sweet feelings about her through social media for years. In honor of her 72nd birthday in October 2020, she celebrated “Mama Rock” with a touching Instagram post.

“We travel this unpredictable road of life and never know what’s around the corner, so we do our best to treat each day for what it is—a true blessing,” she wrote. “And no one embodies that philosophy more than my mother. She IS a survivor, so every single day she lives life to the fullest and is a shining beacon of love, joy and kindness.”

Johnson’s father, professional wrestler Rocky Johnson, died of a pulmonary embolism in 2020 at the age of 75.
